As Shanghai Ocean University is about to celebrate its 113th anniversary, the first English international academic journal in the field of aquaculture in China, Journal of Fisheries (English) (Aquaculture and Fisheries), founded by our university, has been officially included in the Web of Science Core Collection ESCI (Emerging Sources Citation Index) database. It is reported that all articles published after 2022 will be included in ESCI, and the journal will receive its first impact factor in 2026, marking a leapfrog improvement in its international academic influence.
The inclusion of this journal in ESCI marks another significant achievement following its inclusion in important domestic and international databases such as DOAJ, Scopus, and CSCD, and its recognition as 2020 China's Most Internationally Influential Academic Journal (Natural Sciences and Engineering Technology). This breakthrough not only fully demonstrates the exceptional academic quality, professional editing standards, and mature international operation capabilities of Shanghai Ocean University in journal construction, but also reflects the high recognition of the research value in the field of aquaculture by the global academic community.
Journal of Fisheries (English) was founded in November 2016 and has been relying on the ScienceDirect platform under Elsevier for international publication since its inception, setting a high starting point and broadening its horizons. The journal focuses on cutting-edge areas such as fisheries biology, aquaculture, fisheries ecological environment conservation, aquatic product processing and quality safety, and fisheries economics and management, and has always been committed to building a high-level international exchange platform for academia and industry in the field of aquatic science. With the professional control of the international editorial board and strict peer review mechanism, the core academic quality of the journal has been continuously consolidated, and it has grown into a highly regarded academic exchange platform in the global aquatic field. Its Scopus Citescore index has also steadily climbed from 3.2 in the early stage to 8.5 in 2024, indicating a steady increase in academic influence. In the future, the journal will continue to strengthen academic quality construction and academic position management with higher standards and stricter requirements, and continue to facilitate academic exchanges and development in the aquatic field both domestically and internationally.
