On the afternoon of June 5th, the professional fishery resource survey vessel Songhang of Shanghai Ocean University slowly departed from the Hengsha Fishing Port dock and set off once again for the Western Pacific, embarking on a mission of approximately six months to conduct the 2025 Comprehensive Scientific Survey of High Seas Fishery Resources.
SHOU leaders and project-related responsible persons took a group photo with the scientific expedition team membersLi Xiaofei, Vice President of Shanghai Ocean University, led a team to hold a departure ceremony for the Songhang scientific research team at the Hengsha Fishing Port dock. Xu Sijie, Director of the Ship Management Center, Zhu Zhanghua, Deputy Director of the International Exchange Office, Zheng Weidong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Marine Biological Resources and Management, Shi Zhangdong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, and Liu Bilin, the project leader and researcher, all joined in seeing the scientific research team off.
The Western Pacific, as a crucial sea area for China's offshore fishing industry, is also a strategic location for global resource competition. This scientific expedition is not only closely related to the construction of China as a powerful nation in offshore fishing, but also an important practice in exploring the ocean and serving sustainable development. Guided by the school motto of diligence, simplicity, and loyalty, all expedition members completed the mission safely and efficiently. This cruise has a total of 24 scientific research personnel. The project team carefully assembled a high-level scientific research team, with Ye Xuchang from the College of Marine Biological Resources and Management, Shanghai Ocean University, serving as the chief scientist for the cruise, Zhang Ye as the secretary of the temporary maritime party branch, and Liu Zhiliang as the captain, responsible for unified command of maritime scientific research operations. The scientific research team is divided into four groups: Fisheries Acoustics Group, Fisheries Resources Group, Hydrological Environment Group, and Plankton Group.
The team implements a team leader responsibility system under the leadership of the team, adheres to the working mode of experienced leading newcomers, and all members establish an overall safety concept, strictly control quality control, and carry out various maritime survey work in an orderly manner according to the pre-set survey implementation plan. This voyage will focus on conducting a comprehensive survey of fishery resources in the high seas of the Western Pacific. This survey will not only provide a basis for the sustainable development and scientific management of fishery resources in this sea area, but also offer technological support for the high-quality development of offshore fishing. Furthermore, it will enhance China's voice in international fishery governance and contribute Chinese strength to global fishery governance.
