Recently, the internationally renowned journal Chemical Engineering Journal published online a research paper titled pH-responsive drug-targeted delivery system: Dual-drug loading hollow mesoporous silica for synergistic therapy bacterial enteritis of Micropterus salmoides (Chem. Eng. J. 515 (2025), 163819, IF=13.4). The paper is co-authored by Associate Professor Fu Yuanshuai and his master's student from the School of Fisheries and Life Sciences at Shanghai Ocean University, who are also members of the Shanghai Key Innovation Team for Aquatic Biodiversity Conservation and Utilization. Professor Zhu Yongheng from the School of Food Science at Shanghai Ocean University, who leads the Shanghai Ocean University International Joint Research Center for Food and Health, serves as the corresponding author. This research team has innovatively constructed a pH-responsive dual-drug loaded hollow mesoporous silica nanosystem, leveraging the strengths of nanotechnology, biology, chemistry, and aquaculture. This system has been successfully applied for the first time in the field of aquatic disease treatment. By synergistically delivering an antimicrobial drug (enrofloxacin) and a natural antioxidant (astaxanthin), it effectively addresses key challenges such as poor drug targeting and low drug utilization in the treatment of bacterial diseases in aquatic animals, providing a new strategy for aquatic disease prevention and control.
